The Sports Xchange
New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is likely to skip the team’s three-day mandatory minicamp starting Tuesday
The Giants placed the franchise tag on Jason Pierre-Paul in March, but he has not signed his one-year tender. He would earn close to $15 million if he signs the franchise tender.
Pierre-Paul, seeking a long-term deal, does not plan to practice with the team this week, according to a multiple reports Monday.
The 26-year-old Pierre-Paul skipped all of the Giants’ voluntary workouts this offseason while working out at home with his personal trainer.
Pierre-Paul, the No. 15 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, recorded 76 tackles, 12.5 sacks and three forced fumbles for the Giants last season. He has collected 276 tackles, 42 sacks, two interceptions and two touchdowns during his career. He had 16.5 sacks during the team’s 2011 Super Bowl season.
Back and shoulder injuries limited his playing time in 2012 and 2013 as he made a total of 8.5 sacks over those two years.
