Gase getting interest from 49ers, Falcons
The San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons, both searching for a new head coach, reportedly have requested permission to speak with Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the two organizations are moving quickly in their search and want to interview Gase.
The 49ers and Jim Harbaugh parted ways after Sunday’s finale and the Falcons fired Mike Smith on Monday.
Gase, who is one of the NFL’s hottest candidates and viewed as one of the bright offensive minds at age 36, also garnered interest for head coaching vacancies last year.
Instead, he opted to concentrate on the Broncos’ Super Bowl run, turning down an opportunity to interview with the Cleveland Browns last January.
Gase is free to interview during Denver’s bye week after the Broncos earned the AFC’s No. 2 playoff seed.
The 49ers also are expected to consider current defensive line coach Jim Tomsula as well as defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
