Gamble out as Eagles’ player personnel chief
Tom Gamble is out as the Philadelphia Eagles’ vice president of player personnel.
The team announced that Gamble and the Eagles “agreed to part ways.”
“We thank Tom for his service over the past two seasons and wish him and his family the best as they move forward,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said in a statement. “I appreciate all Tom has done for our scouting department and our team.”
Multiple media outlets reported that Gamble was tight with head coach Chip Kelly, leading to the inference that Kelly and Roseman might have a rocky relationship. According to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, Roseman’s job is secure.
In his season-ending press conference Monday, Kelly was asked about the possibility of Gamble leaving the team to become a general manager elsewhere. According to ESPN.com, Gamble interviewed for front office positions in Miami and Tampa Bay a year ago.
“I think Tom does an outstanding job and if he has the opportunity to do that, then I would support him anything,” Kelly said. “He’s a heck of a football guy.”
Prior to joining the Eagles, Gamble worked in the San Francisco 49ers’ front office. During his tenure in Philadelphia, Gamble acquired Pro Bowl linebacker Connor Barwin, safety Malcolm Jenkins, cornerbacks Nolan Carroll, Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher plus quarterback Mark Sanchez, among others.
