FOX pulls NFL announcer after Twitter dust-up
After a rocky first game as an NFL announcer and a vulgar postgame Twitter fight, Mike Goldberg was pulled from FOX’s football coverage.
Goldberg’s NFL debut came Sunday in the Detroit Lions’ 17-3 win over the Vikings in Minnesota. According to multiple media report, Goldberg made numerous errors, making mistakes when identifying players, coaches and game situations.
He took heat from fans of both teams on Twitter following the game, and Goldberg replied to several fans with profane tweets.
On Tuesday, Fox announced its broadcasting crews for the upcoming week, and Tim Brando will replace Goldberg on the Vikings’ road game against the Buffalo Bills.
Goldberg, a regular Ultimate Fighting Championship announcer, posted Tuesday on Twitter, “I just want to apologize to everyone at FOX and elsewhere for my momentary lapse of reason Sunday night. I let some mean-spirited folks on twitter get to me and I should have had thicker skin instead of reacting so quickly and emotionally.
“I don’t want to be a distraction on the upcoming broadcast Sunday, so we mutually agreed that it would be best to sit this next one out. Thank you to FOX and to others who have been so great to me and understanding.”
