Falcons Select Vic Beasley 8th Overall- Full Analysis
The Atlanta Falcons filled a major need on defense. Find out how Vic Beasley fits Dan Quinn’s defense.
The Atlanta Falcons defense was leaky at best in 2014 and new head coach Dan Quinn found a man to get to opposing quarterbacks in former Clemson defensive end Vic Beasley.

“To the surprise of no one, the Falcons — under new head coach Dan Quinn — kicked off their 2015 draft with the best available pass rusher. Beasley posted 25 sacks and six forced fumbles over the last two seasons, showing his ability to explode off the edge and make plays in the backfield. He will instantly upgrade an Atlanta pass defense that allowed more yards than any other team in 2014. Falcons fans may have preferred hometown boy Todd Gurley, but Beasley just made too much sense to pass up at this point.”- Michael Lombardo

“The Atlanta Falcons had an awful pass rush a year ago, and adding Adrian Clayborn isn’t nearly enough to sure up that front-7. Vic Beasley has ideal speed and explosiveness to get to the quarterback, but does lack ideal size for a 4-3 end. Beasley will give the Falcons the kind of athlete they haven’t had on the outside of the defensive line in some time. Beasley may be a situational pass rusher to start his career, but if he can add size and strength, he could develop into a great defensive end.”- Pat Donovan

“It was rumored in the hours before the draft that the Falcons were looking to trade for Seattle’s Bruce Irvin to put him right back in Dan Quinn’s defense. Now they don’t have to (although they still could). There’s an argument to be made that Beasley is a better talent off the EDGE than Fowler. It was a toss up for me with a slight edge toward Beasley because he has a seemingly instinctive ability to get going at the snap of the ball and use his speed to make things happen in the backfield. Certainly needs to add some size to get around and through NFL blockers, but that’s true of many college players heading to the pros. The things he’s already great at you just can’t teach. Great fit for a Falcons defense that desperately needed to upgrade in the front seven against the pass.”- Devon Jeffreys

“I love this pick for the Atlanta Falcons! They filled a major need with a guy in Vic Beasley who could become a star. Beasley reminds me of Dwight Freeney and playing in a dome (with piped-in crowd noise) on a fast track will help this tremendous athlete. Great job by Thomas Dimitroff and company.”- Charlie Bernstein
