Falcons place Hester on short-term IR
The Sports Xchange
The Atlanta Falcons placed Devin Hester on short-term injured reserve with the turf toe injury that has sidelined the veteran receiver and return man through the first four games of the season.
The team also signed safety Charles Godfrey and tight end Tony Moeaki and released tight end Mickey Shuler.
Hester will not be eligible to practice with the Falcons for six weeks and will not be eligible to play until Week 13 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“We have been trying to treat his toe injury the best we could, and he has been doing everything in his power to get back on the field, but at this point we think this is the best plan of action,” coach Dan Quinn said. “We are confident this time will let Devin get healthy and be a big contributor to this team once he is back on the field.”
Godfrey adds veteran depth to the secondary after undrafted rookie Robenson Therezie, a converted corner, started in place of Ricardo Allen (knee) on Sunday. Godfrey played in five games for the Falcons and seven games for the Carolina Panthers last season.
Moeaki signed with the Falcons over the offseason, but did not make the season-opening roster.
Shuler signed with Atlanta on Sept. 30.
