Falcons lose CB Alford, RB Smith to injuries

The Atlanta Falcons lost cornerback Robert Alford and running back Antone Smith to injuries Sunday in their 19-17 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

Alford, a second-round pick last year who has started every game this season, will miss 2-4 weeks with a broken wrist, coach Mike Smith said Monday.

Smith was placed on injured reserve Monday and will miss the rest of the season with a broken leg. He finished the season with 144 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.

The Falcons (4-6) have rallied from a 2-6 start to share the NFC South lead with the New Orleans Saints.
