Falcons finally catch tight end, sign Tamme

Published

on

After missing on their priority targets, tight end Jacob Tamme signed Atlanta Falcons, who spent the past three seasons with the Denver Broncos.

“Excited to join the Atlanta Falcons! Looking forward to meeting my teammates & starting the process of working to win a Championship,” Tamme wrote on Twitter (@JacobTamme).

Tamme played six seasons with quarterback Peyton Manning, including his first three in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts. His most productive season was 2010 with 67 receptions for 631 yards and four touchdowns.

The Falcons made offers in free agency to Niles Paul of the Washington Redskins and Lance Kendricks of the Rams. Both players returned to those teams.

Tamme was drafted by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Kentucky. He spent four seasons in Indianapolis before joining the Denver Broncos and Manning in 2012. Tamme has caught 178 passes for 1,703 yards with 10 touchdowns in 107 career games. Last season, he saw action in 15 games, logging 109 yards on 14 receptions with two touchdowns.

The Falcons failed to replace retired Tony Gonzalez last season, producing a total of 33 receptions for 241 yards from their tight ends. Levin Toilolo was the primary option with 31 receptions but struggled with drops and is viewed as more of a blocker in offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
