Falcons, 49ers schedule Rex Ryan talks
Rex Ryan, fired Monday after six seasons with the New York Jets, could land on his feet as a head coach in a matter of days.
Ryan is scheduled for interviews with the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons, and could also get a sitdown with the Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders.
Ryan was 46-50 with the Jets including back-to-back appearances in the AFC championship game in his first two seasons. The Jets finished 4-12 last season with eight consecutive losses following their Week 1 win over the Raiders.
But dominant defense was a consistent calling card for Ryan’s teams, and the 49ers and Raiders are operating his familiar 3-4 scheme.
In five of six seasons with the Jets, Ryan’s defense finished in the top 10. The only exception was 2013, when New York was 11th.
