Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young received five years of probation in a felony battery case on Tuesday and must stay in a live-in program for one year.

Young pleaded not guilty in July to the felony charge. He was facing up to nine years in prison on four counts of battery in California.

In July, Young lashed out at attorney Brian Hurwitz during a meeting at Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital in Los Angeles. According to a report by the Detroit Free Press, Young “stood up from his chair and punched (Hurwitz) several times to his face. After being punched by (Young), (Hurwitz) said he lost consciousness. After regaining consciousness, (Hurwitz) said he was bleeding profusely from his nose and that his nose was swollen and felt broken. He also had pain to his forehead and jaw area.”

Young also was arrested in 2013 and faced 11 criminal counts of burglary and assault.

The 25-year-old Young was released by the Lions after the 2012 season.
