A day after he was claimed by the Buffalo Bills, linebacker IK Enemkpali apologized for the incident that led to his dismissal from the New York Jets and said he plans to be a good teammate in Buffalo.

Enemkpali was waived by the Jets on Tuesday immediately after he broke the jaw of quarterback Geno Smith with a punch in the locker room.

On Thursday, Enemkpali said, “I apologize. … It should have never happened. I should have walked away from the situation.

“I’m very grateful, thankful and happy to be a Bill. I look forward to being a good teammate.”

Bills coach Rex Ryan was with the Jets when Enemkpali was drafted in the sixth round of out Louisiana Tech in 2014.

“We all know what happened. Obviously it was a terrible thing that happened, but IK made a mistake,” Ryan said Wednesday. “There’s no question about that. We had IK last year … and he was a good teammate. Simple as that.”
