Eric Berry Won’t Play Under Franchise Tag
Find out if Eric Berry will play under franchise tag.
This past season, Eric Berry proved his worth as he totaled 77 tackles, four interceptions, and two pick-sixes. For his efforts, Berry earned a trip to his fifth Pro Bowl.
After playing this past season under the franchise tag, Berry refuses to do it again.
“I’m definitely not going to play under the franchise tag this year,” Berry said. “I want to end my career in Kansas City. I want to play there. I love the city, I love the vibe, I love my teammates. I really look at them more than teammates. We’ve been through a lot and they supported me a lot. And the organization. But I don’t feel comfortable playing under the franchise tag this year.”
Berry earned $10.8 million in 2016 and if he were to be franchise tagged again, he would earn roughly $13 million in 2017. With the possibility of getting hurt, it’s understandable as to why Berry wants long-term security this time around.
