Emotional night Thursday for Bengals DT Still
CINCINNATI — Thursday will be a special night for Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still because his 4-year-old daughter, Leah, will be at the game to watch him play in person for the first time.
Leah, who is battling Stage 4 cancer, also will be a part of the ceremony where the Bengals present a $1.25 million check — the proceeds from the Still jersey sales — to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for pediatric cancer research.
“I’ll be able to see my daughter. I’ll be able to touch her, I’ll be able to hug her, which is totally different from being able to FaceTime her,” Still said. “I can’t wait until she shows up here Wednesday and can go to her first game here. This is the first time she’s been able to travel out of state, so I know she’s excited to come to Cincinnati and to see what Cincinnati has to offer.
“They’ve been supporting her this whole time with her being all the way in Philadelphia, and I know her being in Cincinnati and them having a chance to see her is going to get the crowd kind of hyped up.”
Still said he couldn’t divulge the details of the check presentation, but he said Leah will be involved and it will happen between the first and second quarters.
“All the money that’s been raised for the cancer research is because of her strength and because she’s fighting this disease,” he said. “So it’s definitely going to be an emotional game for me. It will probably be the most special game I’m ever going to play.”
