Eagles sign LB Kendricks to four-year extension

The Philadelphia Eagles signed linebacker Mychal Kendricks to a four-year extension on Monday.

The Eagles did not release financial details, but ESPN’s Adam Caplan reported the deal is worth $29 million, including $16.4 million in guarantees.

Kendricks, 24, was entering the final year of his four-year, $4.29 million rookie contract, and some thought he might be traded after the Eagles acquired linebacker Kiko Alonso from the Buffalo Bills in the LeSean McCoy trade in March.

But, earlier this month, coach Chip Kelly made it clear he wanted to keep Kendricks.

“Mychal Kendricks is not going anywhere, I can tell you that right now,” Kelly said Aug. 2. “You can write that down in ink, not pencil. He’s not going anywhere.”

The Eagles reportedly did not want to let Kendricks go because they are concerned about the durability of DeMeco Ryans, who suffered another torn Achilles last year.

Last season, Kendricks recorded 83 tackles, four sacks and three forced fumbles in 12 games.
