Eagles, Bradford reportedly table extension talks

Five days before their season opener, the Philadelphia Eagles ended talks with quarterback Sam Bradford on a contract extension, ESPN’s Ed Werder reported Wednesday.

According to the report, the tenor of the discussions changed after Bradford’s strong preseason, which included a 10-for-10, 121-yard, three-touchdown performance against the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 29.

Bradford, 27, is entering the final year of his contract, during which he will make $12.95 million.

The Eagles acquired Bradford in the offseason with a draft pick from the St. Louis Rams for Nick Foles, a 2015 fourth-round pick and a 2016 second-round draft pick.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft, Bradford enjoyed some success with the Rams, but he was slowed by injuries.

Bradford was limited to seven games in 2013 due to a torn left anterior cruciate ligament, and he re-tore the same ligament in August 2014, causing him to miss all of last season.

Bradford captured the 2008 Heisman Trophy at the University of Oklahoma, then missed his senior season while recovering from a shoulder injury.

In 49 career NFL starts, Bradford has an 18-30-1 record, a 58.6 percent completion rate, 11,065 passing yards, 59 touchdown passes and 38 interceptions.
