DT McDaniel reportedly will join Buccaneers
The Sports Xchange
Defensive tackle Tony McDaniel, recently released by the Seattle Seahawks, reportedly is going back to Florida to play with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The one-year contract is worth up to $2.5 million, NFL Media and Pro Football Talk reported Monday.
The move reunites McDaniel with former Seattle teammate Clinton McDonald on a Tampa Bay line that also includes tackles Gerald McCoy and Henry Melton.
The Seahawks released McDaniel a week ago to help their salary cap after they reached long-term extensions with quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner.
McDaniel, 30, had been set to make $2.5 million with the Seahawks as well.
McDaniel spent two seasons in Seattle, starting 29 of 32 games, collecting 83 tackles, two sacks, two passes defensed and one fumble recovery. In the postseason, he started five of six games, collecting 14 tackles, two passes defensed and one fumble recovery.
Originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2006, McDaniel spent three seasons with the Jaguars before moving on to Miami and playing four seasons with the Dolphins (2009-12). In nine NFL seasons, he has played in 111 games with 34 starts, totaling 212 tackles, 10.5 sacks, nine passes defensed and two fumble recoveries.
