Draft Kings Week 12 Preview
Find out who should be in your Draft Kings lineup for Week 12.
Throughout the NFL season, Football Insiders’ fantasy expert Michael Gonzalez will be providing advice to help you assemble your Draft Kings team. He will be providing three solid plays at each position – a high-priced option, middle-priced option and low-priced option – so you can find talented players for your roster and stay under the $50,000 salary cap. He’ll tell you his best values based on their Draft Kings salary.
This week, Football Insiders’ Draft Kings league is offering $1.25 million in total prizes including a $100,000 first-place prize. It only costs $3 to enter (or FREE if it’s your first time playing). You can draft your team here.
Here are Michael’s top plays for Week 12:
QB’s
Carson Palmer, Arizona Cardinals $7,100
ARI@SF
Out of the more expensive options at quarterback, Carson Palmer has the most favorable matchup against the San Francisco 49ers’. San Fran hasn’t been tough on opposing quarterbacks this year, and I expect the high-powered Cardinal offense to put up a good amount of points in Week 12. Palmer hovers around three touchdowns per game, and all signs point to another big game from Palmer this week.
Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks $6,000
PIT@SEA
Russell Wilson has been very disappointing for fantasy owners this year across a variety of fantasy football formats. Although, coming off a game he threw for a season high three touchdowns, I’m thinking Wilson is getting back on track and could be on the verge of putting up big numbers like he has done many times in the past. He hasn’t scored a rushing touchdown this year, and that streak has to end eventually. This is the week Wilson combines for multiple touchdowns and has a big performance as the Seattle Seahawks take care of business at home against the very potent offense the Pittsburgh Steelers have.
Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers $5,500
TB@IND
Jameis Winston has been hot as of lately, and is coming off tying a rookie single-game record for most touchdown passes (five). Facing this week an Indianapolis defense who doesn’t do anything special against opposing quarterbacks, I expect the rookie quarterback to continue to impress, as will the Buccaneers with a victory over the Colts. With a healthy Vincent Jackson on the opposite side of Mike Evans, the passing attack of the Bucs is something to be worried about if you’re a Colts fan.
RB’s
Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings $7,300
MIN@ATL
You shouldn’t need a lengthy explanation of why Adrian Peterson is the top play some weeks. He’s the best back in the game, and out of the most expensive options, has the best matchup. Atlanta is susceptible against the run, and Minnesota likes to run the ball just a tad. If you didn’t know, that’s called sarcasm, and the Vikings will be using AP, all day, in Week 12, giving him every opportunity to absolutely explode. Let’s go, it’s AP to the house for a big run and game.
T.J. Yeldon, Jacksonville Jaguars $4,800
SD@JAX
The Jaguars face a very bad run defense that is the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers have given up big numbers to opposing backs all year, and I’m using that data to pinpoint Yeldon as a great play in Week 12. He only has two games this year with over 100 yards rushing, so he will be doing that for the third time this year on Sunday. The Jaguars have a young, promising core with Blake Bortles slinging the ball to Allen Robinson, and Yeldon complements well in the run game. The Jaguars will give the Chargers a good game, and Yeldon is a solid play in Week 12.
Chris Johnson, Arizona Cardinals $4,600
ARI@SF
There are a lot of cheaper options at running back this week that I’m high on. Chris Johnson follows teammate Carson Palmer this week, and finds himself on the list of good plays, and that’s because of his matchup. San Francisco does not have a good offense, and the Cardinals are going to score a lot of points one way or another. If it’s not through the air, it’s going to be through this guy. CJ2K is a really good play if you have Palmer, that way when he’s not throwing for scores, you can pick up points from the speedster. I see him having a score and a bunch of yards, making him a great value play for how cheap he is this week.
Tevin Coleman, Atlanta Falcons $4,300
MIN@ATL
Anytime a starter gets scratched late, it means there is going to be a skill player who is super cheap, capable of putting up big numbers. That guy this week is Tevin Coleman. Coleman started off the year as the Falcons featured back. Due to injury, Davonte Freeman got his shot and performed greatly. Well, the opposite just happened, and Coleman is now going to see all the touches because Freeman is out with a concussion. He’s extremely affordable, and a great play that will help you load up elsewhere this week.
WR’s
Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants $8,700
NYG@WAS
Odell Beckham and the Giants face a subpar Washington Redskin team, and why expect OBJ to not have a big game? He’s coming off three games in a row with over 100 yards receiving, and that doesn’t stop here. The Redskins don’t have someone who can slow OBJ down, granted I don’t know many players across the league that can. Beckham Jr. has the best matchup among the elites at wide receiver, and that’s why he’s my best play in the top dollar category for Week 12.
Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers $7,400
TB@IND
Mike Evans is seeing a great amount of targets this year from Jameis Winston, and that’s going to continue in Week 12. The young duo seem to have great chemistry, and the Winston to Evans downfield connection will be in full effect in Week 12. With the Wildcard in sights, the Bucs need a big road win against the Colts. For that to happen, the stat line for Evans will have to show around 100 yards receiving and at least one score. Every opportunity will be there for Evans, and I’m betting on the production to be there to when the game comes to a close. Mike Evans a good mid-tier option for you in Week 12.
Sammy Watkins, Buffalo Bills $5,200
BUF@KC
Three weeks ago in Week 9, I remember watching the Bills and Sammy Watkins, and thought that Watkins is as good as it comes, and he seems to be back at 100% health. Well a few weeks went by and he didn’t do much and I think it’s just from pure usage. Tyrod Taylor doesn’t look for him as much as he should, and that’s a problem. The Bills will plan on executing Watkins in the passing game if they want to take down the surging Chiefs in Week 12. Watkins is still completely healthy, and all it takes as a receiver is a couple big plays and a touchdown to have a good fantasy week.
TE’s
Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots $7,900
NE@DEN
Rob Gronkowski is usually $8k in this league, so you’re getting him at a bargain in Week 12! I have nothing new to say about Gronk that you don’t already know. Yes, he had a slow week last week against the Bills. But, the Bills brought a lot of pressure and Brady had to make decisions very quickly for his team. I think part of the game plan was to use the other weapons, as Buffalo probably thought the same thing we all did, that without Julian Edleman, Tom Brady would keep looking Gronk’s way. This week, Gronk sees a majority of the targts, and explodes. Make sure he’s on your team.
Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins $5,100
NYG@WAS
Jordan Reed snapped his touchdown streak last week, but I expect him to catch another in Week 12. He’s facing a Giants defense ranked incredibly low against opposing tight end’s this year. Reed has shown bright spots in the past, but is putting together a healthy and productive season in 2015, being one of the better fantasy tight ends in all of football. If and when he catches a touchdown, he’s a good play in Week 12.
Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers $4,700
SD@JAX
Antonio Gates and Philip Rivers had a little bit of a fight last week when they were getting blown out by the Kansas City Chiefs. Gates frustration was probably because he only had one catch for six yards. There’s no way that happens again, and they will go to Gates and keep the future Hall of Famer in the game early. The Jaguars are a favorable matchup for tight ends in fantasy, and with how cheap Gates is, it’s tough to bet against his odds in Week 12.
D/ST
Arizona Cardinals, ARI@SEA $3900
Just like there are many Cardinal players you want to play because San Francisco doensn’t have a good defense, the 49ers’ don’t have a good offense either. The Cardinals sport a great defense, and I expect them to have their way with San Fran this week, making them the best and safest play at defense in Week 12.
Cincinnati Bengals, STL@CIN, $3,000
The Bengals will have some issues with Todd Gurley, but outside of that, there’s nothing to be that worried about with the Rams offense. Cincinnati will devour Case Keenum so they’re a good mid-tier play this week.
Oakland Raiders, OAK@TEN, $2,400
The Oakland Raiders face the Tennessee Titans this week, and they should have a nice showing. The Titans are still figuring things out on offense, and that’s always good for opposing defenses. The Raiders aren’t any slouch on defense, and I expect good numbers in Week 12 from the Raiders defense.
