Dolphins sign first-round WR Parker; Matthews stews
The Sports Xchange
First-round pick DeVante Parker signed Thursday with the Miami Dolphins, who reached contract agreements with all seven of their draft selections.
Parker, a wide receiver out of Louisville, was the 14th overall selection last week. According to multiple media reports, he received a four-year, $10.9 million deal that includes a $6.2 million signing bonus.
The 6-foot-3, 209-pounder beefs up a wide receiver crew than features veteran Greg Jennings and youngsters Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills. However, Miami wide receiver Rishard Matthews is seeking a trade due to Parker’s arrival, according to the Miami Herald.
Matthews posted on his Twitter account Thursday, “It’s funny how people claim to want to do right by you. In the end it’s all just talk”
Parker, despite missing seven games as a senior because of a foot injury, wound up with 43 receptions for 855 yards and five touchdowns for Louisville last season.
The Dolphins also signed Oklahoma defensive tackle Jordan Phillips (second round, No. 52 overall), Arizona State offensive guard Jamil Douglas (fourth round, No. 114), Memphis cornerback Bobby McCain (fifth round, No. 145), Boise State running back Jay Ajayi (fifth round, No. 149), Minnesota safety Cedric Thompson (fifth round, No. 150) and Michigan State wide receiver Tony Lippett (fifth round, No. 156).
