Darrelle Revis Open To Becoming A Safety

Find out why Darrelle Revis is open to a position change.

The days of ‘Revis Island’ are gone.

For a while, New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis was viewed as the top cover guy in the league. However, the 31-year-old has lost a step. This season, Revis only hauled in one interception, which didn’t come until Week 16 and it came on a deflection.

It’s unclear if the Jets want Revis back. If they indeed do retain the veteran defensive back, there’s a good chance Revis could be converting to safety.

“This offseason, there will be a lot of thinking what my future is and what I can do to best help the team win games,” he said. “If that means changing my position to help the team win games, that’s fine. I still love the game. I still have a passion for it and I still want to play at a high level.”

Head coach Todd Bowles has discussed the possibility with Revis briefly.

“If we have that discussion and make that (move) going forward, he’ll have the challenges of just moving from corner to safety,” Bowles said. “Most of the instincts stuff is still the same, but we’ll see. We haven’t made any decisions or had concrete discussions going forward.”

If Revis does stay in the green, it certainly won’t be at the $15 million he’s scheduled to make.
