Cowboys plan to stick with QB Weeden
The Sports Xchange
Brandon Weeden won’t be unseated as the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.
NFL Network reported that, barring a change of heart by the coaching staff, Weeden — and not Matt Cassel — would be the starter for the Cowboys when the team returns from a bye week.
Dallas lost to the New England Patriots 30-6, a third consecutive defeat for the Cowboys, who opened the season 2-0.
Without quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant, the offense is shell of what is was in 2014. Romo is out until November 23 with a broken left collarbone. Bryant had surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot following an injury in the third quarter of the Cowboys’ opener Sept. 13.
Last week, owner Jerry Jones said Bryant “is Superman” and might be able to return as soon as Week 7.
Weeden is completing 72.4 percent of his passes but hasn’t won a game in 12 consecutive starts, including his final season with the Cleveland Browns.
