Cowboys fear Claiborne suffered torn ACL
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the initial diagnosis that he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Claiborne was hurt in the first quarter of Sunday night’s 38-17 win over the New Orleans Saints. He couldn’t put any weight on his left leg after his injury, which he suffered while trying to cover Saints wide receiver Kenny Stills. Claiborne had to be helped to the locker room by trainers.
“Claiborne I’m concerned about,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said following the game. “I don’t know. I don’t know. We did not MRI it. We simply examined it. But initial examination was not encouraging.”
Claiborne, the sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft, had skipped the team’s walk-through practice last week and angrily left the training facility when informed he was being replaced in the starting lineup by Orlando Scandrick. He returned to meet with coach Jason Garrett later that night and apologized to his teammates before the Wednesday morning meetings.
The Cowboys also said starting outside linebacker Bruce Carter, the team’s leading tackler, will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of his strained right quadriceps. Carter went down while pursuing Saints running back Khiry Robinson on a 62-yard run in the fourth quarter.
