Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent, who was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter in the 2012 death of teammate Jerry Brown, has retired.

The Cowboys officially placed Brent on the reserved/retired list Friday, the first day of their three-day rookie mini-camp at Valley Ranch.

This is the second time the 27-year-old Brent has retired. He also announced his retirement in July 2013, while he was facing charges in Brown’s death.

Brent was convicted in January 2014, given 180 days in jail and 10 years of probation.

After spending five months in jail, Brent rejoined the Cowboys on Sept. 29. He took part in team meetings and worked out with his teammates while serving his NFL suspension. He returned for his first game in Week 14 at Chicago last season on Dec. 4 and had three tackles. He injured his calf in practice a week later and did not appear in another NFL game.
