Kirk Cousins became the first Washington Redskins quarterback to have multi-fourth quarter comeback attempts in a season since Robert Griffin III did it three times in 2012.

Cousins, of course, has done it three times in the last four games – 80-yard drives to beat Philadelphia and Tampa Bay in the final minute and another 46-yard drive that resulted in a last-second game-tying field goal at Atlanta.

Unfortunately, Washington lost that latter game in overtime on a Cousins interception.

“You don’t want to sit on a loss in a bye week. That’s always tough,” Cousins said. “This was a step in the right direction. But we’re going to need a lot more than three wins this year.”

Cousins became the first Redskins quarterback to complete 30 passes in a game three times in a season since 1960.

–Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan fractured the third metacarpal in his right hand and had surgery on Monday. Kerrigan was injured during the second quarter against Tampa Bay trying to tackle Jameis Winston. He said he still hopes to play Nov. 8 against New England.

“All I know is it hurt like hell,” Kerrigan said after the game. He has not missed a game since being drafted by the Redskins in 2011

–The Redskins need to get running back Alfred Morris going. Since a 121-yard rushing performance in Week 1, Morris has just 281 rushing yards in the next six games.

He is averaging a paltry 3.3 yards per carry, which would be the third consecutive declining year. Morris averaged 4.8 per carry as a rookie and has lost carries to rookie Matt Jones.

“The last three weeks have been rough outings for [Morris] and the touches he gets haven’t been pretty,” Gruden said. “I still intend on using both of them, though. … We’re not giving up on Alfred just because it’s three tough weeks. It’s not on him.”

Notes: K Dustin Hopkins executed the first successful onside kick for Washington since Nov. 4, 2007. That recovery was instrumental in the Redskins’ comeback win and the first in the NFL this season. … DE Chris Baker sealed Washington’s victory with his first career fumble recovery as the Buccaneers tried to desperately pitch the ball on the final play of the game. … TE Jordan Reed caught what proved to be game-winning touchdown pass against Tampa Bay. He caught a career-high 11 passes and a career-high two touchdowns. … WR Ryan Grant caught three passes on Sunday for a season-high 54 yards, including his first career touchdown catch in the third quarter.
