Colts release RB Ballard, elevate LB McNary
The Sports Xchange
The Indianapolis Colts waived injured running back Vick Ballard and promoted inside linebacker Josh McNary to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Tuesday.
The Colts also signed running back Zurlon Tipton and guard Robert Myers to the practice squad and released defensive tackle Jeris Pendleton from the practice squad.
Ballard, drafted by the Colts in 2012, had been on injured reserve for most of the 2013 season and all of 2014. When healthy, Ballard played in 17 games and rushed for 877 yards on 224 carries and two touchcowns and added 18 catches for 147 yards and one touchdowns.
McNary has played in 20 games and started four since 2013. He has 54 career tackles on defense and 13 on special teams during the regular season.
Tipton saw action in six games for the Colts in 2014 as a rookie and rushed for 18 yards on 10 carries and had six catches for 68 yards and a touchdown. In the playoffs, he added 68 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries and three receptions for 22 yards.
Myers joined the Colts on Sept. 6 and was waived Sept. 11 before returning to the team. The 6-foot-5, 335-pounder was drafted in the fifth round in 2015 by the Baltimore Ravens and waived Sept. 5.
Pendleton has been with the Colts the past two years but spent the 2014 season on injured reserve. Two years ago, he had four tackles in the regular season and five in the postseason.
