Colts QB Luck not expected to play vs. Jags

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is not expected to play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars because of a right shoulder injury.

A team source told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that veteran Matt Hasselbeck will start in Luck’s place. The 40-year-old Hasselbeck is the oldest quarterback to start an NFL game since Brett Favre (41) in 2010, according to ESPN.

It will mark Hasselbeck’s first career start in a Colts uniform and his first since 2012 with the Tennessee Titans.

The Colts signed journeyman quarterback Josh Johnson on Friday as insurance in case Luck couldn’t play. Johnson most recently spent time in training camp with the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals this year.

Luck had not missed a single snap because of an injury in his four seasons in the NFL.

A source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Luck had an MRI earlier this past week that revealed a bruise. Luck injured his shoulder against the Tennessee Titans in Week 3.

Luck was limited both Wednesday and Thursday, and was not out with the other quarterbacks at the start of practice Friday.

Head coach Chuck Pagano said Friday that Luck was questionable. But Pagano said he remained confident Luck would start Sunday.

“Absolutely … It’s Andrew Luck. If anyone can play, it’s Andrew.” Pagano said.
