Colts’ McNary charged with rape
Rape charges were filed Wednesday in Indianapolis against Colts linebacker Josh McNary.
McNary, who joined the Colts in 2013, faces one count of rape, one count of criminal confinement and one count of battery, according to Marion County Court documents.
The Colts are preparing to play the New England Patriots on Sunday in the AFC Championship game.
“We are aware that there has been a report about Josh McNary, but unfortunately that’s the limit of our knowledge,” the team said in a statement issued Wednesday. “At this time, we are very concerned and trying to find out what the relevant facts are, but we have insufficient information to venture any opinion. As we learn more, we will make appropriate updates.”
A 29-year-old woman told police that she met a man on Dec. 1 at a downtown Indianapolis bar who took her to his apartment and raped her. According to an affidavit, she scratched the man’s neck, face, back and shoulder during a fight before the alleged rape and later snuck out of the apartment.
McNary’s agent, Andy Simms, declined to comment when reached by The Indianapolis Star.
McNary signed with the Colts in the spring of 2013 and played in five games last season at linebacker. In 15 games this year, mostly on special teams, McNary has 28 tackles.
As a college player at Army, McNary set a school record for career sacks. He then served two years of active duty in the military before joining the Colts.
