INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts have struggled with turnovers and penalties this season.

Indianapolis has been penalized 59 times and have had 12 turnovers through the first six games of the regular season.

“Yeah, we always talk about the enemy is always in your own camp,” head coach Chuck Pagano said. “It’s the friendly fire stuff. We call them sins, self-inflicted negatives, that we try to avoid.

“(But) this is a good football team. We can play with anybody. And we have played with the league’s best over the years.”

–Coach Chuck Pagano was asked about how he handles tough loss, such as the one suffered by the Colts last Sunday night.

“You’re sitting there and you’re going to play it over and over and over in your head and you ask to (be able) to fall asleep for a couple hours,” Pagano said. “So you get a couple hours and life goes on.

“You got to get up and you got to move on. Like I told the players. You’re going to face adversity. You’re going to get knocked down, but you got to get up. You’ve got to dust yourself off and you got to move on.”

“You hate losing any game. If you’re a competitor, like all those guys in that locker room and our coaches are, yeah, they’re tough. Again, disappointed but not discouraged. Glad we have another opportunity.”

–Safety Mike Adams leads the AFC with AFC with nine interceptions since the start of the 2014 season. Adams has had three interceptions in his last three regular-season games and is looking for his third straight game with an interception.

–In his last four games against NFC teams, quarterback Andrew Luck has passed for 1,005 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. Luck has a career 103.7 passer rating against NFC teams.

–Wide receiver Donte Moncrief has caught a touchdown pass in four of his last six regular-season games.

NOTES: Indianapolis added veteran free agent cornerback Tony Carter (5-9, 175) to the active roster. Carter played the last four seasons with Denver. He has also played with New England. … The Colts elevated S Dewey McDonald to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and waived rookie inside linebacker Amarlo Herrera and cornerback Shaun Prater. … Indianapolis released quarterback Alex Tanner from the practice squad while adding quarterback Matt Blanchard and tight end Sean McGrath to the practice squad. … Outside linebacker Robert Mathis has been getting limited work in games this season after missing most of last year because of a torn Achilles tendon. But head coach Chuck Pagano said Wednesday that Mathis is in line to see more playing time as the season progresses. He has been averaging around 15-25 snaps per game. That workload might begin increasing this week against New Orleans. … Rookie cornerback D’Joun Smith (knee) has been on the Colts’ limited injured reserve list, but could come off it soon. According to coach Chuck Pagano, Smith is ahead of schedule in his rehab and could be activated after the team’s bye week. … Safety Clayton Geathers (sprained knee) was injured in the first half of the New England game last week and did not return. His status for the New Orleans game remains doubtful. … Safety Mike Adams (hamstring) is listed as day-to-day. Adams was hurt in the second half of last Sunday night’s game against New England. … Inside linebacker Jerrell Freeman (groin) has been nursing a groin injury for the last couple of weeks. He missed the Houston game but was able to start last week against New England. Freeman hopes to play this week against New Orleans. … Outside linebacker Bjoern Werner (hamstring) was a pregame inactive against New England last Sunday, but hopes to be active for the New Orleans game. … Inside linebacker Nate Irving (knee) had a full practice on Wednesday and is expected to be available for the New Orleans game.
