Cincinnati players arrested, cited by police

One University of Cincinnati football player was arrested and three received citations from police who responded to gunshots being fired at a party near campus last weekend.

Freshman cornerback Alex Thomas was arrested and charged with trying to flee from police, and starting running back Hosey Williams was cited for disorderly conduct while intoxicated, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Thursday.

Sophomore linebacker Ey’Shawn McClain and starting cornerback Leviticus Payne were cited for unknown violatons early Sunday morning.

Houston was suspended from the team. The other players remain eligible to play. The school said the three who received citations was being disciplined internally.

“(Houston) will not be eligible to participate in a game until his legal matter is completely resolved,” the university said in a statement. “He has a preliminary court date on Oct. 14, so he will miss at least four games and possibly more.”

Houston rushed for 103 yards on 14 carries in the Bearcats’ 58-34 season-opener victory over Toledo last week.

“This kind of behavior is not acceptable and not indicative of the UC football program,” Cincinnati coach Tommy Tuberville said. “Moving forward, we will continue to educate our players on making good decisions and being great representatives of the university.”

Cincinnati plays host to Miami (Ohio) on Saturday and travels to Ohio State the following week.
