Chiefs’ McKnight ruptures Achilles, out for season
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Just when it appeared his career was on the rise, Kansas City Chiefs running back Joe McKnight was knocked out for the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon in practice Thursday.
The team confirmed the injury Friday and McKnight is obviously out for the season. McKnight caught two touchdown passes in a Week 3 win over the Miami Dolphins and the former USC tailback was beginning to look like this year’s version of versatile Dexter McCluster to Chiefs fans. McCluster signed with the Tennessee Titans.
Star running back Jamaal Charles, bothered by an ankle problem since Sept. 14, missed Wednesday’s practice but returned Thursday and is expected to play Monday night against the visiting New England Patriots. Knile Davis is the No. 2 back.
During his career, McKnight enjoyed returning kickoffs against the Patriots, averaging 28.9 yards on 22 kickoff returns against New England.
