Chiefs decide to release WR Avery
The Kansas City Chiefs have decided to release wide receiver Donnie Avery, a move that will save the team $3.4 million against the 2015 salary cap.
Avery, who signed a three-year, $8.55 million contract before the 2013 season, compiled 772 yards and two touchdowns on 55 receptions last season.
The play of undrafted rookie Albert Wilson allowed the Chiefs to cut ties with Avery, NFL.com reported.
The Chiefs also need to make a decision on No. 1 wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, who is due nearly $11 million this season.
Bowe’s statistics were similar to Avery. In 2014, Bowe caught 60 passes for 754 yards but failed to score a touchdown.
