Chargers’ Verrett eyes battle against Rodgers
The Sports Xchange
SAN DIEGO — San Diego Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett has a big chore on Sunday in slowing quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers passing game.
“I definitely look forward for the matchup,” Verrett said. “He is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He is mobile around the field and can drop a dime anywhere. It is going to be a tough matchup for us.”
Will he draw James Jones, the Packers’ top receiver?
“Just do whatever the coaches tell me to do,” Verrett said. “If that is what they want me to do I am ready for it.”
Especially after Verrett had such a good showing on Monday against the Steelers’ Antonio Brown.
“It boosts my confidence a lot,” Verrett said. “Antonio Brown is obviously one of the best receivers when he gets the ball in his hands and I was able to stop him. I’m just looking to be consistent each and every week.”
–Chargers head coach Mike McCoy spent his 1995 rookie season on the Packers’ practice squad as a quarterback.
Notes: Among those who didn’t practice Wednesday were center Chris Watt (groin, concussion), left tackle King Dunlap (concussion), left tackle Chris Hairston (concussion), cornerback Craig Mager (hamstring), wide receiver Stevie Johnson (hamstring), defensive end Darius Philon (hip, thigh) and outside linebacker Tourek Williams (foot). … Among those who had limited participation in Wednesday’s workout were left guard Orlando Franklin (ankle), outside linebacker Kyle Emanuel (shoulder), and offensive tackle D.J. Fluker (ankle).
