Chargers sign DB Wilson
The San Diego Chargers added Jimmy Wilson to their secondary on Friday, signing the defensive back to a two-year contract.
Wilson, a San Diego native, spent the past four seasons with the Miami Dolphins, where he started 21 of 60 games and accumulated 153 tackles, four interceptions and two sacks.
After Wilson was drafted in the seventh round by the Dolphins in 2011, he has played mostly safety and nickel back. Last season, he started 13 games and had a career-best 58 tackles and one interception.
The 28-year-old Wilson is the seventh player to sign or re-sign with the Chargers since free agency opened Tuesday. Guard Orlando Franklin and return specialist Jacoby Jones joined the team from the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens, respectively. The Chargers retained left tackle King Dunlap, cornerback Brandon Flowers, defensive end Ricardo Mathews and center Trevor Robinson.
The Chargers lost safety Marcus Gilchrist, who agreed to a four-year deal with the New York Jets this week, and possibly cornerback Shareece Wright, who visited the San Francisco 49ers on Friday and has attracted interest from other teams, according to U-T San Diego.
