San Diego safety Eric Weddle will miss his first contest since 2009 when the Chargers face the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Weddle is batting a groin injury and the Chargers declared him out on Friday’s injury report. The absence will end his streak of 86 consecutive starts.

Weddle isn’t the only ailing key player for San Diego.

Veteran tight end Antonio Gates hasn’t practiced all week due to a knee injury and is listed as questionable.

Emerging star receiver Keenan Allen also is questionable after injuring his hip in last Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. Allen caught 14 passes before exiting, one shy of the team mark he shares with Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow for most receptions in a game.
