Chargers reportedly release CB Marshall
The San Diego Chargers reportedly released cornerback Richard Marshall on Monday.
Marshall, in his second year with the Chargers, had no interceptions or pass breakups in eight games. His release was reported by Pro Football Talk, which cited a league source.
Marshall committed a 31-yard pass interference penalty that helped lead to a touchdown in the Chargers’ 35-21 loss to the Denver Broncos last Thursday. Marshall also was called for illegal contact on another touchdown drive.
A second-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2006, Marshall had played a year each with the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins since leaving the Panthers in 2011. He re-signed with the Chargers this year on a veteran-minimum one-year deal.
Marshall was one of six cornerbacks on the roster, with first-round pick Jason Verrett, Chris Davis and Steve Williams also backing up starters Shareece Wright and Brandon Flowers.
