Chargers Could Extend Eric Weddle After the Draft
The Chargers plan to offer Eric Weddle a contract extension.
Just not yet.
General Manager Tom Telesco expressed confidence Wednesday that the All-Pro safety will remain a Charger long term. Weddle, who has one year left in his contract, has skipped voluntary workouts this week following a void of activity to get a new deal done. Telesco said that talks will initiate some time after the April 30 to May 2 draft.
Weddle, 30, is entering his ninth NFL season, all spent with San Diego. He hasn’t missed a game the past five years while being named an All-Pro after each of them. The defensive team captain also contributes on special teams.
“He’s a major part of our football team, an excellent player,” Telesco said. “I’m sure our future would have him involved. There’s no doubt. We’re a better football team with him.”
