Cardinals release CB Dennard, put TE Gresham on PUP list
The Sports Xchange
The Arizona Cardinals released cornerback Alfonzo Dennard on Wednesday, placed tight end Jermaine Gresham on the active/physically unable to perform list and put tight end Troy Niklas (hamstring) and linebacker Zack Wagenmann (foot) on the active/non-football injury list.
Dennard was claimed off waivers from the New England Patriots on May 6. He was a seventh-round draft pick by the Patriots in 2012 and played in 29 games in three seasons. His exit leaves the Cardinals with eight cornerbacks.
Gresham, who had back surgery during the offseason, signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals earlier this week. Niklas has a hamstring injury and Wagenmann a foot injury.
The Cardinals also waived/non-football-injury wide receiver Damond Powell, who was shot in the face last week in Toledo, Ohio. Powell is expected to clear waivers and land on the Cardinals’ reserve-non-football-injury list.
