Cardinals, Fitzgerald closing in on deal

Published

on

The Cardinals and Larry Fitzgerald are closing in on a multiyear deal that would allow the wide receiver to finish his career in Arizona, according to reports Wednesday.

Fitzgerald, an eight-time Pro Bowler, is due $16 million in salary next season under his current contract, but he has a $23 million salary cap hit. The Cardinals had said that one of their top offseason priorities was restructuring Fitzgerald’s contract.

Fitzgerald, who will turn 32 in August, has spent his entire 11-year career with the Cardinals, logging 12,151 yards and 89 touchdowns. However, his production has declined drastically over the past three seasons. He caught just 63 passes for 784 yards last season, his lowest production since his rookie year, with a career-low two touchdowns.
