Cardinals Draft D.J. Humphries at No. 24 – Full Analysis

With the 24th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals selected D.J. Humphries out of Florida. Here’s what the Football Insiders experts thought of the selection.

“The holes on the Arizona offensive line last year helped contribute to the team’s demise after an incredible start by putting Carson Palmer in a spot to get hurt. So this offseason, the Cardinals have gone to great lengths to ensure they keep Carson upright – first through the addition of guard Mike Iupati and now by drafting D.J. Humphries. The Florida product is extremely athletic for a man of his size and also has the toughness needed to play the outside of the line. Humphries provides a bookend on the other side of Jared Veldheer and the two should put the aging Palmer in position to succeed for a few more years.” – Devon Jeffreys

“It seems like anyone you asked had a different favorite tackle in the NFL draft. Florida’s D.J. Humphries fell all the way to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 24, and many analysts believe he has the best feet in the draft. Humphries doesn’t have the power of an Ereck Flowers or the pass protection skills of Andrus Peat, but he may be as well balanced as any offensive tackle taken in the first round. Humphries can step right in at right tackle, and could be the replacement for Jared Veldheer on the left side a few years down the line. This is another solid pick by a Cardinals team that’s been doing a good job of drafting in recent years.” – Pat Donovan

“D.J. Humphries projects as a left tackle at the next level, and as a guy with 19 career starts in college he’s another offensive lineman with a ton of potential to refine his game. Offensive line was certainly a need for the Cardinals.” – Alex Hickey

“The Cardinals averaged a paltry 3.3 yards per rush last season. They couldn’t keep their quarterbacks healthy, either. They went a long way toward addressing both of those issues in the first round of the draft, picking Florida RT D.J. Humphries. The Florida prospect will play opposite LT Jared Veldheer (who joined the team last offseason) and – just like that – Arizona has turned offensive tackle from a weakness into a strength. It has to break the hearts of Panthers fans, though, as Carolina would have jumped all over Humphries if he fell just one spot further.” – Michael Lombardo

“I really like this pick for the Arizona Cardinals. Bruce Arians saw his season go down the toilet in 2014 as Carson Palmer tore his ACL. The obvious answer is more help on the offensive line and they get just that in D.J. Humphries. With all of these elite players from Florida, how terrible of a coach was Will Muschamp?” – Charlie Bernstein
