Cam Newton Benched For Not Wearing A Tie
Find out why Cam Newton was benched for the first play of the game.
In an absolute must-win situation, the reigning NFC champion Carolina Panthers were demolished by the Seattle Seahawks to the tune of 40-7. During Carolina’s opening drive, it saw backup quarterback Derek Anderson throw an interception on the first play of the game.
Where was Cam Newton?
Well, head coach Ron Rivera benched him for one series for violating the team’s dress code. For someone who takes pride in how he looks off the field, Newton wasn’t able to follow a basic team rule.

Considering how lopsided the game ended up being, Newton missing one play didn’t matter one bit.
