The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and linebacker Lavonte David agreed to a five-year, $50.25 million contract extension Sunday, multiple media outlets reported.

The team revealed that it would hold a press conference Monday to announce David’s extension, but it did not disclose details of the deal.

David’s agent, Ron Butler, told NFL.com that the extension includes $25.56 million in guaranteed money. NFL.com reported that David is now the highest-paid 4-3 linebacker in the league, with his new contract topping the four-year, $33.72 million deal that DeAndre Levy recently got from the Detroit Lions.

Per NFL.com, the Kansas City Chiefs’ Justin Houston, the Green Bay Packers’ Clay Matthews, the Washington Redskins’ Ryan Kerrigan and the Seattle Seahawks’ Bobby Wagner are the only linebackers with higher average salaries than David’s $10.05 million.

A second-round draft pick in 2012 out of Nebraska, David started every game his first two seasons before missing two games last season. Last season, he posted a career-high 146 tackles (third in the NFL) and four forced fumbles (tied for seconds).

He has 10 sacks and six interceptions in 64 career games, all starts.
