Bucs hire Bajakian as QBs coach
Former University of Tennessee offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian left the school to become the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterbacks coach, the team announced Thursday.
Last week, Tampa Bay dismissed quarterbacks coach Marcus Arroyo.
Bajakian’s only previous NFL coaching experience was under current Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith with the Chicago Bears. Bajakian was a quality-control coach and quarterbacks coach in Chicago from 2004-06.
The past two years, Bajakian led the Volunteers’ offense. Tennessee finished 5-7 and 7-6 during his stay.
Bajakian was Central Michigan’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2007-09. He also was the Chippewas quarterbacks coach from 2002-03. Bajakian was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Cincinnati from 2010-12.
Arroyo was brought on to be the Buccaneers’ quarterbacks coach under offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford last year. However, Arroyo ended up serving as the offensive coordinator after Tedford took a medical leave of absence — and then resigned — following a heart procedure.
Earlier this month, Tampa Bay hired Dirk Koetter to serve as offensive coordinator.
The Buccaneers finished 30th in the NFL in offense in 2014 and rushed for only 1,375 yards, the second fewest in team history.
