Bucs fire player development chief after DUI arrest

Published

on

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday fired player development director Isaiah Harris who was arrested and charged with driving under the influence earlier in the day.

Harris came to Tampa Bay along with coach Lovie Smith from the Chicago Bears, where he worked in the same capacity from 2008-2013.

“Every member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is held to a high standard,” Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said in a statement. “This type of incident, particularly for someone whose primary responsibilities are to mentor and develop our players off the field, cannot be tolerated. Due to the nature of his position and the expectations placed on our staff, we made the organizational decision to part ways with Isaiah.”

According to the police report, Harris rear-ended a vehicle while at a Taco Bell drive-thru. The owner of that vehicle was able to identify Harris’ vehicle at a nearby fast-food restaurant.

Harris refused to have his blood-alcohol content tested after being stopped by the Tampa Police Department at 2:06 a.m. He was booked at 4:35 a.m. and released at 11:06 a.m. on a $500 bond.
