Bucs’ Evans a hot rookie receiver
TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Mike Evans was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after amassing 209 receiving yards and two touchdowns against the Washington Redskins on Sunday.
Evans is just the third Bucs rookie to win the honor, following running back Doug Martin in 2012 and running back Warrick Dunn in 1997.
Evans reset his career high for receiving yards in four straight games. In those four games, he totaled 536 yards, the most of any player in the NFL. His 458 yards in the last three games are the most ever for a Bucs player in a three-game stretch.
Evans is a finalist for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week — the Bucs have won that just once since 2006, when Martin did so in 2012. Carnell Williams won three times in 2005.
The No. 7 overall pick from Texas A&M, Evans leads all NFL rookies with 794 receiving yards, and his seven touchdown receptions are just one behind Carolina’s Kelvin Benjamin for the rookie lead.
