The Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn’t find it funny when — hours after selecting him with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft — quarterback Jameis Winston posted a photo of himself posing in front of a serving of Alaskan king crab legs.

According to Tampa Bay Times, once Bucs officials became aware of the photo, they “encouraged” Winston to remove the photo from his Instagram account, which he did.

Winston had tweeted, “Thanks Capt for the crab legs,” and linked to the Instagram photo before it was later deleted.

Winston was celebrating with his family and apparently trying to poke some fun at his past. The 2013 Heisman Trophy winner was issued a civil citation for shoplifting on April 29, 2014, for taking crab legs from a Tallahassee, Fla., grocery store — just one of several off-the-field incidents that marred his college career at Florida State.

The picture immediately received negative reaction on social media for making light of the incident when he left a Publix store without paying for the $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish.

According to the newspaper, three weeks ago Winston was handed an Alaskan king crab that was being auctioned for charity by Captain Keith Coburn, who pilots the Wizard on the Deadliest Catch. Colburn provided Winston with 25 pounds of Alaskan crab for Winston’s draft day party in Bessemer, Ala., on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Winston wore a No. 3 Buccaneers jersey and team cap in the photo.

At the time of the crab legs incident, Winston acknowledged he “made a terrible mistake,” and he left the store “without paying for one of my items.”

However, during a recent appearance on ESPN’s “Draft Academy,” Winston said he never stole the crab legs, and that they instead were given to him by an employee. Publix said it investigated the incident last May and there was no indication an employee had given Winston any merchandise.

Winston also was accused of sexual assault during his freshman season at Florida State but never was charged. The woman who accused Winston of raping her in December 2012 filed a civil lawsuit against him last month.

Winston thanked the Buccaneers for drafting him Thursday night.

“Thank you for accepting me as your quarterback right now and I look forward to getting in there with the guys, earning a spot and competing my tail off and bring us some wins.” Winston said.

“Actions speak so much louder than words, or what they may have read or what they may have heard. It’s about your actions. Whatever is in the past is in the past. I look forward to gaining everyone’s trust.”
