Bucs Double-Down At OT In Round 2
Tampa Bay knows it’s their most important job to protect Jameis WInston. Find out why this small school prospect makes sense.
When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Donovan Smith with the 34th overall pick in the NFL Draft, many lauded the team for getting new quarterback Jameis Winston some help.
Tampa Bay was not finished in helping build up the trenches on the offensive side of the football. The Buccaneers swapped positions in the fourth round (from 109 to 128) to move up five positions back into the second round and select Hobart’s Ali Marpet with the 61st overall pick.
The 6-foot-4, 307 pound Marpet a three-year All-Conference and two-time Division-III All-American performer, dominated his competition and proved at the Senior Bowl he belongs with the best in the game. The NFL realized at the all-star game that Marpet was worthy of his second round selection even with his non-FBS background.
