Buccaneers Surrounding Rookie QB Jameis Winston With Line Help
Find out why Donovan Smith is a great fit for the Bucs.
Donovan Smith’s first job as a professional NFL tackle will be to help protect the first pick of the 2015 NFL Draft quarterback Jameis Winston.
“I trained for this position all my life,” Smith said shortly after being selected with the 34th pick overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Smith (6-foot-6, 338 pounds) started 31 games at Penn State and was on the Outland Trophy preseason watch list before his final season at Penn State. He played through the trials and tribulations the school experienced in the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
The Buccaneers offensive line was lousy last year to say the least. The front office swung and missed on 2014 free agent signee Anthony Collins who was released after one-year with the Bucs. He had a disappointing season in his debut year in Tampa Bay and was released this past March after signing a five-year $30 million contract last year.
