Browns Take Danny Shelton With 12th Overall Pick- Full Analysis

The Cleveland Browns grabbed their big run stuffer in Danny Shelton. FInd out if they made the right move.

The Cleveland Browns tightened up their defensive line with massive former Washington Huskie defensive tackle Danny Shelton.

“Some thought Danny Shelton would go within the top-5, but some were concerned with his 40-time. Shelton may not have electric speed, but that’s not exactly the most important asset for a defensive tackle. Shelton is powerful, explosive on the inside and a great run stuffing defensive tackle that can get to the quarterback as well. The Browns had the worst run defense in football a year ago, and Shelton will step right in and make an impact regardless of how slowly he may run 40 yards.”- Pat Donovan

“One of the most natural fits in the entire draft, Cleveland nailed this one on the nose. It was no secret that Mike Pettine and the Browns were hot for Danny Shelton and their patience paid off as they didn’t need to give up a thing to get him. Shelton is a gap filler to be sure, one of the biggest men in this draft class period, and he’ll help the Browns stop the run. But he’s also outstanding at getting to the quarterback for a guy of his size and his presence up front will make Cleveland’s talented secondary even more dynamic.” – Devon Jeffreys

“A perfect fit for the Browns. The only way this could possibly fail is, well, it’s Cleveland.” – Alex Hickey

—————————————————————————————————————————————-

“The Cleveland Browns ranked dead last in run defense in 2014, allowing 4.5 yards a carry. Acquiring nose tackle Danny Shelton should help in that department. The 339-pounder is a space eater in the middle. He uses his leverage well, which makes it hard to penetrate. Shelton has 16 tackles for loss in 2014.”- Mark Gunnels

“The Cleveland Browns made a great pick? It certainly seems that way.  Danny Shelton is a monster in the middle of the defense an he will not only help the Browns stuff the run but he can get some push in the middle of the field and make Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Flacco and Andy Dalton uncomfortable.”- Charlie Bernstein
