Cleveland Browns cornerback Justin Gilbert crashed his car in Brunswick, Ohio, following a road rage incident.

Gilbert, 23, was uninjured when he drove his car into a drainage ditch Friday afternoon while trying to get away from a man who had been trailing his car, Brunswick police told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Police cited Gilbert, who was driving a Dodge Challenger, along with the driver of the Mustang chasing him. Gilbert has been charged with lack of responsible control.

The incident originated on Interstate 71 as the Mustang followed Gilbert at a high speed on the highway until they exited in Brunswick, police said. The Mustang’s driver told police that Gilbert had cut him off, and the two men had exchanged words and gestures.

Gilbert was selected by the Browns with the eighth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He made just 29 tackles in 14 games last season, with one interception.

The Browns open their season Sunday against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
