BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills met last year on Oct. 3. Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer suffered a season-ending right ACL injury. Brandon Weeden came off the bench and sparked a 37-24 victory.

As he prepares to visit the Bills Sunday, Hoyer claims he erased the memory.

“I didn’t even think about it until I was told I was doing the conference call with Buffalo (writers),” Hoyer said after practice Wednesday. “I knew what the first question was going to be. For me it was more about Thursday night than anything else.”

The Browns’ game against the Bills last year was memorable for another reason. Travis Benjamin set a franchise record with 179 yards in punt returns on seven returns.

Things can change quickly. Benjamin began the 2014 season as the Browns punt returner. He lost the job twice for mishandling the ball but is the punt returner again, unless the ball is being kicked to inside the Browns 20. In that case Jim Leonhard handles the returns. So far this season Benjamin has six returns for 16 yards.

Incestuous game: Browns head coach Mike Pettine was the Bills defensive coordinator in 2013. Browns defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil coached the Bills linebackers. Pettine has fond memories of his days with the Bills. He said six feet of snow piled up in his former neighborhood last week.

–Tight end Gary Barnidge is an under the radar part of the Browns offense. He caught a pass for 15 yards to the Falcons 30 with 16 seconds left in the game-winning drive against the Falcons. In the second game of the season his reception 10 yards on fourth-and-six to the Cleveland 48 with 19 seconds left kept the drive alive and helped the Browns beat the Saints, 26-24.

Barnidge has 12 catches for 150 yards.
