Broncos promote LB Barrett

Published

on

The Denver Broncos promoted rookie linebacker Shaquil Barrett to their active roster and signed defensive end Gerald Rivers to the practice squad Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Broncos placed linebacker Danny Trevathan on injured reserve with the designation to return. In the Broncos’ 31-17 win over the New York Jets on Sunday, Trevathan reinjured the same leg that had a broken bone under the kneecap. He is expected to miss eight weeks.

The 6-foot-2, 250-pound Barrett was signed by the Broncos as a college free agent out of Colorado State and competed on the club’s practice squad during the last six weeks.

The 6-5, 258-pound Rivers is a second-year player who appeared in two games with St. Louis and Jacksonville in 2013 after signing with the Rams as a college free agent out of Mississippi. He competed with the Jaguars through training camp this year before being waived and spending four weeks on Miami’s practice squad.
